Yes Mom We're Going Through Los Angeles

You know you're going through the LA area when you see things like this.
First everyone is going along nice a pretty like.

Then you see this going the other way and you feel so sorry for those poor people.

Then you come upon this and you say 'what the heck", then you notice that a nice California Highway Patrol officer is picking up metal pieces from the freeway, good boy.

Then you go around a corner and you see the beautiful Pacific Ocean.  We pulled into a vista point to see this.  Took a picture looking north along the coast.  Let's zoom in and get a closer look see.

Oh, look it's the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. Click on the blue to read all about it.

And here's Ghost Girl with her Little Red Wagon having fun in the sun.

Until next time.  Thank you all for reading.

Grapes, Oil, Salad and Fruit Trees

We went from Mendocino county in Northern California to Castaic on the south side of the Grapevine in 3 days.

We grow grapes in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.
This was taken just south of Cloverdale, CA. in Sonoma Co.

Flowering plum trees in bloom.

These next pictures are of the beautiful Salinas Valley, the salad bowl of the western US.

I know this is blurry but you get the idea.  Here is lettuce growing.

Water is very important in the growing of our vegies.  California is in the grips of a drought.

Yes, there is oil in the Salinas Valley too.

And grapes.

After traveling along highway 101 for two days when we reached Paso Robles we took highway 46 east to Lost Hills which is on highway 5 in the Central Valley.  These pictures were taken along highway 46.

Blurry but still beautiful.

Oil in the central valley too.

Taft, CA. has built themselves a new race track.

Then it was up and over the mountains at the southern end of the central valley.  This section of highway 5 is known as The Grapevine.  We chugged along at a fast 40mph.

It snowed up here yesterday.

And when we turned into the driveway of the Castaic Lake RV Park and turned around and looked     back towards The Grapevine we saw this.  Ignore the power lines and only see the rainbow.

Tomorrow I will tell you about our trip from Castaic Lake area to San Diego.

Gone Gone Gone

Saturday Feb. 21, 2015

We are officially full-timers.  We are headed south through California on highway 101 towards San Diego for a few days to see my daughter and deliver some things from the house. After that we are free to go anywhere we want.

Almost There

Yes, we are living in our rv full time, in the driveway.  Hahaha  Not exactly what I had in mind.  But the house is empty and waiting for the painter to come and do his thing.

That darn kitchen counter is almost cleared off.

Painters things poised and ready.

So today is Friday Feb. 13th and we had hoped to be driving away by tomorrow but that won't be happening.  Still more things to get done.  Maybe by the end of next week.  I'm going to be having lunch with a few more friends and tying up loose ends around here.  So keeping our fingers crossed for next Saturday.

Wood burning stoves cleaned, check
Honda ready to hook up for towing, check
Wave 3 propane heater installed in rv, check
Solar system on rv roof, check
New water pump in rv, check
Front end aligned, not yet
House painted, not yet
House cleaned, not yet
Carpet cleaned, not yet

It's always something.  Soon very soon.

Almost there.

Pictures to Prove our Progress

Those of you who noticed that this kitchen table isn't mine win a prize.  My friend from McKinleyville who helped with the sale traded tables with me.  He wanted my red one so he brought down his white/green one down and we sold his.

Still have work to do to clean off this kitchen counter.

More pictures tomorrow.

News Flash!!!

You might notice that there are no pictures in this post, I haven't found my camera cord yet.  I know it's here somewhere but just don't know where.

Well the estate sale was last Saturday and I'm happy to report that despite the fact that it rained cats and dogs the day before, not a drop of rain fell on Saturday.  Hordes of people showed up to buy and take away about 95% of our stuff and today I took the rest off to the senior center thrift store.  But let me back up a bit.  Three of my dearest friends, G-man from Mckinleyville, Ca. and Cathy and Kevin from San Francisco came to help us out with the sale.  G-man arrived on Thursday evening and spent all day Friday pricing things for us.  Cathy and Kevin arrived Friday evening bringing food and wine, and their energy to share with us.  Our first customer was at our door by 7:30am Saturday morning and they didn't stop coming until 2pm, the closing time of our sale.

We are on schedule to leave here early next week.

Pictures will be coming soon.

See you soon.
